    The London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games focused the attention of the world on the city and the wider UK, delivering a summer of sport which united the public and inspired a generation.

    The Olympics saw 10,000 athletes from over 200 countries participate across more than 35 sporting events.

     

    Tickets for all of the Paralympics’ 21 sports sold out for the first time in the history of the Games, highlighting the attention on the event at which over 20 world records were broken.

     

    Having been appointed National Partner to the London 2012 Games in 2007, Lloyds Banking Group planned meticulously to support what would be the greatest show on Earth.

     

    We supported and funded 1,000 emerging athletes and future stars of Team GB and ParalympicsGB on their journey to London 2012 and beyond through our Local Heroes programme.

     

    In 2011, we also asked the UK public to nominate people to be Torchbearers in the Olympic and Paralympic torch relays in recognition of the difference they made in their communities.

     

    We supplied 15,000 tickets to businesses, consumers, guests and colleagues, allowing as many people connected to the bank as possible to enjoy the experience of a lifetime.

     

    Crucially, we also supported companies to maximise the commercial opportunities from the Games. One in three of the £3 billion worth of London 2012 contracts were awarded to Lloyds Banking Group business customers.

     

    We are proud to have championed a fantastic summer of sport, which will have a lasting impact on the UK’s infrastructure, sporting pedigree and economy, as well as living long in our memories.
