Providing effective energy financing transactions requires an understanding of the sector drivers. For the oil and gas sector we have seen the response has been to develop transcontinental pipelines and massive capital investment in LNG plants across the globe in Australasia and North America, as well as developing what were previously uneconomical resources such as tar sands. By understanding the market trends we have been quick to interpret government policies and determine how our clients are likely to respond. We believe that whilst a mixed energy economy is essential, mcleaner technologies, nuclear and energy efficiencies all remain high on the agenda.
We have been involved in renewable energy transactions in North America, Australia and Europe to complement our strong market position in the UK. The deal flow will be influenced by the concerns regarding the security of energy supply, fluctuating oil prices and the availability of ‘feedstock.’ The renewable energy sector continues to evolve, in part thanks to technological innovation, robust incentive programmes and social concern and political response.
Prime developers of energy projects include specialist funds, construction companies, utilities and oil majors. These companies can be domestic or global and therefore require the full spectrum of banking products from limited recourse finance, debt structuring support, risk mitigation products and debt capital markets.
